The so-called “manosphere”—a vast network of online self-help communities for men—has grossly misinterpreted the Stoic philosophy of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. By exaggerating, in a camp style, the reverence these circles hold for a romanticized version of antiquity, the exhibition attempts to overturn their disheartening interpretation and open the door to a new possibility: that even the emperor might have a heart.
